A so-called empty leg (or ferry-leg) is where aprivate jet returns to its base empty, without passengers or flies empty from its base to pick up passengers.
If you are flexible in terms of time and destination/origin you may be lucky enough to pay a special low fare to fly on a flight that would otherwise be empty.
